Alfa Bet: The Alfa Garage in Eye, Suffolk

Here's the ginger carthorse at Titus Rowlandson's Victory Garage in Eye, Suffolk after repair work. The garage is set in an old apple orchard (windfall apples were taken home and made into a crumble) and in the background there are a two Alfa's that are seeking total restoration attention and a Spider awaiting collection.

A Maxi-dent Waiting to Happen

The current vogue for dressing as The Good Life’s Margo Leadbetter ‘I’m off to an afternoon soiree with the 70s jet set’ maxi dress has apparently ended in minor fashion disaster for two women in the workplace here. We noticed a Health and Safety warning was issued after one had ‘sustained a stair injury’ after treading on the hem of their garment whilst another had ‘sustained shoulder lacerations’ after someone else had stood on the hem while they were ascending stairs putting pressure on the shoulder strap of said garment and inflicting injury’. Maxi’s are a great look on Jerry Hall in 1970s après a day on the beach in Mustique with an Anthony Price clad Bryan Ferry on her arm, rather less glam on the wind-blown, grey and rainy streets of London town with an umbrella waiting for a 188 bus.

Oh How True, Darling...

A charmingly sardonic song from the chap from Manfester
Action is my middle name
I can't waste time any more
Everybody has a date with an undertaker
A date that they cannot break

Autumn on My Mind

Had been eyeing up these YMC Ghillie Brogues in Brown for a while. It was pay day, the last pair were on the shelves in my size and at a sale price. Need I say more?

Pelton Arms: 12th June Event

My Greenwich local, The Pelton Arms on Pelton Road SE10 just by the river side, is hosting a afternoon of bric-a-brac, second hand clothing/accessories sales event raising money for the Greenwich and Bexley Cottage Hospice - and there's always some great items up for grabs. The event is on Sunday 12th June starting at 2pm until 6pm. The Ladies and Gentlemen Club is also now a bit of a fixture on a Thursday evening for a drink, food and a few tunes selected by Glenn Tilbrook, or check out 'The Ronnies' when they next play a gig here.

Mexican Papier Mache Dolls

Brighton this Saturday and whenever I'm in this neck of the woods there's always a visit to Blackout at 53 Kensington Place. Couldn't resist these Mexican dolls complete with painted circus ring outfit and glitter. The owner asked what I was going to do with them; not sure, so they are huddled in a bunch on the 60s sideboard until I came come up with something.

Saltaire

It was open house day in Saltaire, West Yorkshire, last bank holiday weekend so it was good opportunity to have a bit of a snoop around some of the houses built by Titus Salt and then over to Salts Mill and the 1865 Gallery which houses a collection of paintings and theatre sets by David Hockney. On Friday evening the House of Rose and Brown (run by Caroline and Julian Brown) also put on a delicious catwalk show from their collection of clothing from the 1930s onwards. Great news to see that Caroline and Julian are opening a second shop in Saltaire. If you are in the area, do drop by to one of their excellent events of various stallholders with rails of fabulous secondhand clothing and household treasures.
